Community News - Electrostriction enhancement in metamaterials

Posted on June 23, 2015

A paper published at the beginning of June in Physical Review B, "Electrostritction enhancement in metamaterials", has described yet another metamaterial with cool properties. Electrostriction is the property of a dielectric that causes it to change shape when an electric field has been applied. Simulations described in the paper suggest that artificial materials can provide more than threefold enhancements in electrostriction. One application could be in small actuators or in reconfigurable systems.
