Community News - Transformation Optics for 2D materials

Posted on March 04, 2014

Graphene, the two-dimensional wonder material, is attracting enormous amounts of research interest. Such materials are not described using bulk properties, such as permittivity and permeability; rather, they are characterised using surface conductivity. In research due to be published in Optics Letters, it has been shown that surface conductivity transforms differntly to those bulk parameters, when transformation optics is used to control the propagation of electromagnetic waves (surface currents) along the material. The paper, "Transformation Optics scheme for two-dimensional materials", is available as a preprint on ArXiv.
