Community News - Flexible Metamaterial Absorbers

Posted on August 05, 2014

Flexible electronics are one of a number of developments in wearable technology. Now, a team in Korea have reported in Applied Physics Letters on a flexible absorber of electromagnetic radiation, for use with mobile electronics. Their design utilised metamaterials, enabling an absorber thinner than conventionally possible. The ariticle, "Flexible and elastic metamaterial absorber for low frequency, based on small-size unit cell", used thin and pliable Teflon to achieve flexibility. The authors designed two versions of the absorber, to suppress radiation around 400 MHz and 2 GHz, respectively, to suppress noise from everyday electronics, including mobile phones.
