Community News - Pendry awarded the 2014 Kavli Prize

Posted on May 30, 2014

We are delighted to hear that Prof. Sir John Pendry, one of our Advisory Board members, has been jointly awarded the 2014 Kavli Prize in Nanoscience, together with Profs. Thomas W. Ebbesen and Stefan W. Hell. The award recognizes their individual "transformative contributions to the field of nano-optics that have broken long-held beliefs about the limitations of the resolution limits of optical microscopy and imaging."

Prof. Pendry is specifically recognized “for developing the theory underlying new optical nanoscale materials with unprecedented properties, such as the negative index of refraction, allowing for the formation of ‘perfect lenses’.”

You can read about the Kavli Prize on the Kavli Foundation website, and read what Prof. Pendry had to say on Imperial College London's website.
